Schoettlin, executive vice president, chief culture and social responsibility officer of Old National Bank, Evansville, was named an Outstanding Woman in Banking by BankBeat magazine, as featured in the November 2020 edition. She joined Old National Bancorp in 2005 as EVP, chief marketing and communications officer before being named to her current position in 2015. Prior to her banking career, Schoettlin was public relations director of the Southwestern Indiana Chapter of the American Red Cross. She has been active with community organizations including Junior Achievement of Southwestern Indiana, the Southwestern Mental Health Foundation, the Public Education Foundation of Evansville, Tomorrow’s Work Force Program for high school students, the Diversity & Inclusion Business Roundtable, the United Way of Southwestern Indiana, the Indiana Youth Institute and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwestern Indiana, which has named her Big Sister of the Year. Schoettlin additionally has been honored with the ATHENA Award in 2010, the Women Worth Watching award sponsored by Profiles in Diversity Journal in 2013, the Torchbearer Award from the Indiana Commission for Women in 2015 and the Indiana Bankers Association Woman of the Year award in 2019. She is a graduate of the University of Southern Indiana. Alexis Harris, a branch manager with Horizon Bank, Michigan City, has been named to the bank’s diversity business council. The council acts as a link between the bank and community by addressing issues including diversity training and outreach efforts. Council members are honored on a display wall at the corporate office. State Bank, Brownsburg, was named 2020 Indiana Small Business Lender of the Year by the Indiana Statewide Certified Development Corporation at its annual meeting in December. Ryan Murphy and Kevin Hall were the bank’s officials making the loans. Community First Bank of Indiana, Kokomo, was runner up as Lender of the Year. The awards were for banking activity with Indiana Statewide CDC for the fiscal year 2020 that ended Sept. 30. Other awards announced at the meeting: First Merchants Bank, Muncie, had the most SBA 504 loans approved by Indiana Statewide CDC and the most dollars in debenture bond sales by the SBA to finance the 504 loans; Ryan Mooney of First Merchants Bank was the banker with the most loans approved by Indiana Statewide CDC; Chuck Fippen of First Internet Bank of Indiana, Fishers, won the award for the most debenture dollars approved for the year. The following member banks of the Indiana Bankers Association were named among the nation’s top 85 “Best Banks to Work for” in the Oct. 27, 2020, edition of American Banker magazine. Among other factors, the organizations were noted for their ability to keep up employee morale during the pandemic: No. 11 – Centier Bank, Merrillville No. 36 – Stock Yards Bank & Trust Company, Louisville No. 39 – First Internet Bank of Indiana, Fishers No. 73 – Peoples Bank, Munster No. 80 – First Busey Corporation, Champaign, Illinois Additionally, TIB-The Independent BankersBank, NA, an IBA associate member, was ranked No. 3 on the list.
