22 JULY / AUGUST 2021 FEATURE New IBA Officer Candidates 2022 The slate is set for year 2022 new officer candidates for the Indiana Bankers Association. Elections are scheduled to take place at the annual business meeting in August at the IBA Annual Convention in French Lick. New officers assume positions Jan. 1, 2022, and serve one-year terms. The IBA nominating committee, led by immediate past chairman Lucas White, The Fountain Trust Company, Covington, has nominated the following officer candidates: • Chairman: Garry D. Kleer, First Bank Richmond; • First vice chairman: Jamie R. Shinabarger, Springs Valley Bank & Trust Company, Jasper; • Second vice chairman: Benjamin J. Bochnowski, Peoples Bank, Munster. In addition to serving on the IBA Board of Directors, officers serve on the IBA Executive Committee, along with the immediate past chairman, two appointed directors and the IBA president/CEO. The Executive Committee has the authority to act in lieu of the board between regular board meetings. Garry D. Kleer Garry Kleer, candidate for IBA chairman, serves as chairman, president and CEO of First Bank Richmond. He also is chairman, president and CEO of Richmond Mutual Bancorporation, and he currently serves on the IBA Board of Directors as first vice chairman. Kleer joined the bank in 1994 as vice president of commercial lending and was promoted in 2001 to president and CEO. His community involvement includes service on the boards of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Wayne County, Reid Health Foundation, Richmond Symphony Orchestra and Wayne County Foundation. He has been recognized with the Indiana University East Chancellor’s Medallion, Junior Achievement Business Hall of Fame, Richmond/Wayne County Distinguished Community Leader, and Boys & Girls Clubs Man and Youth Award. Kleer is a graduate of Indiana University, the Graduate School of Commercial Lending and the Stonier Graduate School of Banking. Jamie R. Shinabarger Jamie Shinabarger, candidate for first vice chairman, is president, CEO and director of Springs Valley Bank & Trust Company as well as the parent company, SVB&T Corporation, Jasper. He has 40 years of financial services experience serving with three financial institutions and currently serves on the IBA board as second vice chairman. Before joining the bank in 2008, Shinabarger was president and CEO of Hicksville Building, Loan & Savings Bank in Ohio, where he served from 1986 to 2007. He began his career in 1980 as an agricultural loan officer and appraiser with the Federal Land Bank of Bryan, Ohio, then served as a loan asset specialist with the consolidated Farm Credit Services of Defiance, Ohio, from 1980 to 1986. Shinabarger serves on the boards and executive committees of two economic development organizations, Dubois Strong and Radius Indiana, and additionally is a member of the Kiwanis Club of Jasper. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Taylor University, an MBA from Indiana Wesleyan University and a certification of completion in executive education from the Ohio State College of Business. Benjamin J. Bochnowski Ben Bochnowski, candidate for second vice chairman, is president and CEO of Peoples Bank, Munster, and CEO of Finward Bancorp. He also serves on the board of directors of the Indiana Department of Financial Institutions, a position he was appointed to by Gov. Eric Holcomb in 2019, and on the IBA board as north region director. Bochnowski joined Peoples Bank in 2010, was named president and chief operating officer in 2015, joined the Finward Bancorp board of directors in 2014, and was promoted to CEO of the bank and holding company in 2016. Active in the community, he is a member of the Membership Council of the American Bankers Association and serves locally on the board of directors of One Region, dedicated to attracting and retaining talent in Northwest Indiana. Bochnowski earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan; an MBA from the ESADE Business School in Barcelona, Spain; and a leadership certificate from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. Additionally, he is a graduate of the ABA Stonier Graduate School of Banking. Bochnowski was honored as a 2020 Rising Star in Banking by BankBeat magazine. HB
