48 JULY / AUGUST 2021 Horizon Bank, Michigan City, donated $40,000 in May to help build the team of the Economic Development Corporation Michigan City. The assistance helped hire an economic development coordinator to focus on housing initiatives. Additionally, in April the bank donated $5,000 to Dunebrook Inc. to be used toward child abuse prevention education in LaPorte and Porter counties. In recent months, the bank also contributed $2,500 to the Love for Jalyn Foundation Inc., $1,000 to the winner of the Slicer branch scholarship and $2,500 to the Urban League of Northwest Indiana. BANKING ON COMMUNITY The 2020-21 junior board of directors of Alliance Bank, Francesville, donated $320 each to the Humanitarian Distribution Center and Monon Food Pantry at a celebration on May 2 hosted by the bank. The celebration closed out the school year for the students, who had gathered each month during the academic year to learn about local career opportunities and to perform community service. Alliance Bank supports the junior board by providing $15 per hour of service for the students to give away at the end of the school year.
