The event was designed to thank the community for its support and to allow the public to interact with a diverse group of nonprofit organizations. Live music, free food, family activities and giveaways were provided by bank volunteers. HB BANKING ON COMMUNITY Alliance Bank, Francesville, debuted its #MyAllianceRocks campaign in June. Bank employees and their family members painted over 140 rocks with messages of kindness, then hid them for the public to find in Francesville, Monon, Monticello, Otterbein, Oxford, Rensselaer and Winamac. Those who found a rock could turn them in at Alliance Bank branches in exchange for a free ice cream sandwich. The campaign's purpose was to spread kindness while encouraging residents to explore their communities. Horizon Bank, Michigan City, donated $2,500 in April to Gary Literacy Coalition to support its education and health literacy programs. In May, the bank awarded $7,500 to Hilltop Food Pantry to support its mission of assisting food-insecure individuals residing in Valparaiso. Additionally, the bank partnered with Michigan City High School to provide a six-week “Making Your Dreams Come True” financial literacy workshop to students. Farmers State Bank, LaGrange, has committed $300,000 to school athletic programs across its footprint to address challenges that school corporations are facing in funding sports programs. Many of these programs had already been financially stressed prior to the pandemic, and the lack of ticket sales and concession sales from the impact of COVID-19 further strained the budgets. The donation will support student athletes in the bank’s market footprint for the 2021-22 school year. The Farmers Bank, Frankfort, presented a check in June to the Sheridan Fire Department to help purchase a self-contained breathing apparatus, a device worn by firefighters to provide breathable air to protect against oxygen deficiency in dangerous and toxic environments.
