Hoosier Banker 47 HONORABLE MENTIONS Julie Sharp, senior vice president of tax credit equity with Merchants Capital, an affiliate of Merchants Bank of Indiana, Carmel, has been appointed to the board of directors of the Affordable Housing Tax Credit Coalition. AHTCC is an industry trade organization and advocacy group based in Washington, D.C., focused on advocating on behalf of the Housing Credit to finance affordable housing in the United States. Sharp joined Merchants Capital in 2020. Two members of the boards of directors of Republic Bank & Trust Company, Louisville, and its parent company, Republic Bancorp, have been recognized among Savoy Magazine’s 2021 Most Influential Black Corporate Directors: Ernest W. Marshall Jr. has more than 24 years of global HR experience, currently serving as the executive vice president and chief human resources officer for Eaton. He previously served as vice president, human resources leader for GE Aviation. Marshall also currently serves on the boards of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Kindway Organization, and is a member of Bellarmine University’s board of trustees. George Nichols III was appointed to Republic Bank’s board in 2020 and to the Republic Bancorp board in 2021. He has spent nearly three decades in the financial services industry and currently is president and CEO of the American College of Financial Services in Pennsylvania. Nichols additionally served in various senior leadership roles with New York Life Insurance Company during a 17-year tenure. In Kentucky, he was the state’s first African American insurance commissioner. WesBanco Inc., Wheeling, West Virginia, was recognized by the American Bankers Association Foundation in October for its New Markets Loan Program. Using an innovative financing model, WesBanco Bank leverages New Markets Tax Credits to fund a variety of small businesses that provide social and commercial services to low-income residents in Appalachia and rural communities.
