Elections are to take place at the annual business meeting in September at the IBA Annual Convention. New officers assume positions Jan. 1, 2023, and serve one-year terms. The IBA nominating committee, led by immediate past chairman Michael S. Zahn, First Federal Savings Bank, Huntington, has nominated the following officer candidates: • Chairman: Jamie R. Shinabarger, Springs Valley Bank & Trust Company, Jasper. • First vice chairman: Benjamin J. Bochnowski, Peoples Bank, Munster. • Second vice chairman: Matthew R. Howrey, North Salem State Bank. In addition to serving on the IBA Board of Directors, officers serve on the IBA Executive Committee, along with the immediate past chairman, two appointed directors and the IBA president/CEO. The Executive Committee has the authority to act in lieu of the board between regular board meetings. Jamie R. Shinabarger Jamie Shinabarger, candidate for IBA chairman, is president, CEO and director of Springs Valley Bank & Trust Company as well as the parent company, SVB&T Corporation, Jasper. He has over 40 years of financial services experience serving with three financial institutions and currently serves on the IBA board as first vice chairman. Before joining Springs Valley in 2008, Shinabarger was president and CEO of Hicksville Building, Loan & Savings Bank in Ohio, where he served from 1986 to 2007. He began his career in 1980 as an agricultural loan officer and appraiser with the Federal Land Bank of Bryan, Ohio, then served as a loan asset specialist with the consolidated Farm Credit Services of Defiance, Ohio. Shinabarger serves on the executive committee of Friends of Traditional Banking, is a member of The Bank CEO Network, serves on the boards and executive committees of Dubois Strong and Radius Indiana, and is a member of the Kiwanis Club of Jasper. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Taylor University, an MBA from Indiana Wesleyan University and a certificate of completion in executive education from the Ohio State College of Business. Shinabarger is a member of the IBA 40 Year Club. Benjamin J. Bochnowski Ben Bochnowski, candidate for first vice chairman, is CEO of Peoples Bank, Munster, and president and CEO of Finward Bancorp. He also serves on the board of directors of the Indiana Department of Financial Institutions, a position he was appointed to by Gov. Eric Holcomb in 2019, and on the IBA board as second vice chairman. Bochnowski joined Peoples Bank in 2010 and the Finward Bancorp board of directors in 2014. He was named president and chief operating officer of Peoples Bank in 2015, and he was promoted to CEO of the bank and holding company in 2016. Bochnowski is a member of the Membership Council of the American Bankers Association and serves locally on the boards of directors of One Region and Allies for Community Business. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan; an MBA from the ESADE Business School in Barcelona, Spain; and a leadership certificate from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. Additionally, he is a graduate of the ABA Stonier Graduate School of Banking. Bochnowski was honored in 2020 as a Rising Star in Banking by BankBeat magazine. Matthew W. Howrey Matt Howrey, candidate for second vice chairman, is president and CEO of North Salem State Bank. Prior to joining the bank in 2008 as chief financial officer, he was a bank examiner for the Indiana Department of Financial Institutions. Howrey’s civic involvement includes the Hendricks County Community Foundation, the Parks Foundation of Hendricks County and the Putnam County Economic Development Center, and he is a past southwest region director of the IBA Board of Directors. Howrey earned bachelor’s and MBA degrees from Indiana University and was named a Rising Star in Banking in 2013 by BankBeat magazine. HB
