26 JULY / AUGUST 2023 Benjamin J. Bochnowski Ben Bochnowski, candidate for chairman, is CEO of Peoples Bank, Munster, and president, CEO and chairman of its holding company, Finward Bancorp. He also serves on the board of directors of the Indiana Department of Financial Institutions, a position he was appointed to by Gov. Eric J. Holcomb in 2019. Bochnowski joined Peoples Bank in 2010 and the Finward Bancorp board of directors in 2014. He was named president and chief operating officer of Peoples Bank in 2015, and was promoted to CEO of the bank and holding company in 2016. Bochnowski is a member of the Membership Council of the American Bankers Association and serves locally on the boards of directors of One Region and Allies for Community Business. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan; an MBA from the ESADE Business School in Barcelona, Spain; and a leadership certificate from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. Additionally, he is a graduate of the ABA Stonier Graduate School of Banking. Bochnowski was honored in 2020 as a Rising Star in Banking by BankBeat magazine. Matthew W. Howrey Matt Howrey, candidate for first vice chairman, is president and CEO of North Salem State Bank. Prior to joining the bank in 2008 as chief financial officer, he served as a bank examiner for the Indiana Department of Financial Institutions. Howrey’s civic involvement includes the Hendricks County Community Foundation, the Parks Foundation of Hendricks County and the Putnam County Economic Development Center, and he is a past southwest region director with the IBA Board of Directors. He earned bachelor’s and MBA degrees from Indiana University and was named a Rising Star in Banking in 2013 by BankBeat magazine. 2024 IBA Officer Candidates FEATURE David M. Findlay David Findlay, candidate for second vice chairman, is chief executive officer of Lake City Bank, Warsaw, and Lakeland Financial Corporation. He additionally serves on the boards of directors of both the bank and holding company. Findlay joined the organization in 2000 as executive vice president of administration and chief financial officer, and from 2010 to 2014 served as president and CFO. Previously, he served for five years with Quality Dining Inc., South Bend, concluding as senior vice president and CFO. Findlay began his career with The Northern Trust Company, Chicago, serving in several capacities from 1984 to 1995, when he was a vice president in the commercial lending group. He is an active board member with organizations including the Indiana Chamber of Commerce, the Central Indiana Corporate Partnership, OrthoWorx, Orthopedic Capital Foundation, AcceLINX, the Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership, Trine University, Parkview Regional Health Center and Centerfield Capital Partners. Findlay is a member of the Indiana Bankers Association class of 2019 Leaders in Banking Excellence, the Association’s highest honor. He is a graduate of DePauw University. The Nominating Committee has also put forth three nominees to fill director-level positions on the board: • Non-Indiana Headquartered Bank Director: Karen B. Woods, general counsel and chief risk officer for First Financial Bank, Cincinnati • At-Large Director: Mark “Doc” Holt, president and CEO of First Farmers Bank & Trust Co., Converse • South Region Director: Eric Lane, president and CEO of First Federal Savings Bank of Washington HB The slate of candidates for Indiana Bankers Association officers is set for 2024. Elections will take place at the annual business meeting at the IBA Annual Convention this August in French Lick. New officers assume their positions Jan. 1, 2024, and serve one-year terms. IBA’s Nominating Committee, chaired by immediate past chairman Garry D. Kleer, First Bank Richmond, has nominated the following officer candidates: % Chairman: Benjamin J. Findlay, Lake City Bank, Warsaw In addition to serving on the IBA Board of Directors, officers serve on the Association’s Executive Committee, along with the immediate past chairman, two directors appointed by the incoming chairman, and the association’s president/CEO. The Executive Committee has the authority to act in lieu of the Board between regular board meetings.
