PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE JASON WILSON PRESIDENT, KADA GAINING VALUABLE INSIGHTS Dear Kentucky Dealers, Fall is in full swing and so are we at KADA! In September, we hosted our Annual KADA Golf Tournament at the Frankfort Country Club. We had a great turnout — thank you to our dealers and vendor partners who attended! You can see highlights from the tournament on page 8. We spent much of October traveling throughout the state for our five District Meetings. We discussed several important topics like legislative initiatives, national issues, electronic titling and registration, cybersecurity and more. These meetings are a crucial opportunity to participate and have your voices heard. Thank you to the dealers and their staff who attended, our legislative special guests, and our vendor partners who made it possible. I hope to see even more of you at next year’s meetings. On the topic of electronic titling and registration, we have made significant steps forward, but there is still work to be done — and we need your help. As you have seen us communicate, electronic lien and titling is now available in all 120 counties, and our Preferred Partner Vitu is working tirelessly to meet with dealers across the state to help you get set up. If you have not already scheduled a meeting with them, I encourage you to do so ASAP. This has been a monumental move towards modernization for our industry, and the advantages of utilizing this electronic system at your dealership are tenfold. Imagine faster transaction times, processing a title within 1-3 days, transferring plates digitally and so much more. See how you can connect with our partners at Vitu on page 14. With fraud and identity theft an unfortunate hot topic in our industry lately, we have decided to put together a Fraud Prevention Virtual Class in December. We will provide tips and information on how you can not only detect fraud but prevent it from happening. See page 26 for details. This new virtual class alongside our November Workshops are all part of an important initiative we are continuing to grow at KADA — which is to provide you with high-level educational resources pertinent to your business. Stay tuned for more information and opportunities in the coming months. Last but certainly not least, we are already getting excited for next year’s Family Convention, June 16-19, 2025, at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, Michigan. This iconic property has something for everyone in your family, from golfing to horse-drawn carriage rides to biking and more. Hotel reservations are open, so make sure to register and book your room today! As always, thank you for your continued support and participation. Onward! 4 KENTUCKY AUTO DEALER

TIME AND ALLY FINANCIAL HONOR LOUISVILLE DEALER W. KEVIN COLLINS Nationally Recognized for Community Service and Industry Accomplishments The nomination of W. Kevin Collins, president and owner at the Collins Auto Group in Louisville, Kentucky, for the 2025 TIME Dealer of the Year award was announced by TIME. Collins is one of a select group of 49 dealer nominees from across the country who will be honored at the 108th annual National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) Show in New Orleans, Louisiana, on Jan. 25, 2025. The TIME Dealer of the Year award is one of the automobile industry’s most prestigious and highly coveted honors. The award recognizes the nation’s most successful auto dealers who also demonstrate a long‑standing commitment to community service. Collins was chosen to represent the Kentucky Automobile Dealers Association in the national competition — one of only 49 auto dealers nominated for the 56th annual award from more than 20,000 nationwide. “Throughout my more than 50 years in this industry, I have been blessed to be able to provide assistance to citizens of my community with their transportation needs,” nominee Collins said. “In doing so, I have fostered many decades‑long friendships and business relationships that I continue to value greatly.” Collins, a 1973 graduate of Atherton High School in Louisville, was 15 years old when his father, Bill, left his job of 21 years at a local car dealership to strike out on his own and establish Bill Collins Ford. “With the support of my mother, my dad took a leap of faith,” he said. “And like father, like son, I followed in his footsteps, working part-time at the store during high school and full-time after graduation.” Collins worked in every department, learning the business from the ground up. At age 27, he was named general manager and was given the opportunity to become a partner as the business expanded with new acquisitions. “Working alongside my father and our experienced management team and staff allowed me to gain industry knowledge and confidence,” he said. And that confidence would be essential when his father was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease at age 50, and Collins stepped in to lead operations. Today, he oversees the Collins Auto Group, which includes three new car dealerships in Louisville: Bill Collins Ford, Bill Collins Lincoln and Collins Nissan. Three of his four children are now a part of the team, representing the next generation to carry on his family’s legacy. As a leading Ford dealer, Collins shares his expertise by serving the Kentucky Automobile Dealers Association, Greater Louisville Automobile Dealers Association and Ford dealer advisory councils. “Based on my years of experience and knowledge of practical business applications, I offer innovative insights to these organizations,” he said. “I also provide leadership 16 KENTUCKY AUTO DEALER

by collaborating with colleagues, board members and auto executives.” In honor of his father who passed away in 2009 after a 29-year struggle with Parkinson’s disease, Collins has also spearheaded several initiatives to build awareness and fund resources to fight the illness. His family established the Bill Collins Parkinson’s Patient Resource and Education Center at University of Louisville Health-Frazier Rehab Institute. “This center helps bring awareness, education and resources to those affected by this disease, as well as to their families,” he said. “We hope to provide support and offer an understanding of the care needed for Parkinson’s patients.” Collins has also donated a Ford Mustang Mach-E to the National Parkinson’s Institute for the group’s annual car raffle. This organization supports the fight against Parkinson’s by improving the quality of life through exercise, education and research. An active member of Atherton High School Alumni Association, where he currently serves as vice president, Collins helps organize the annual induction and banquet for the high school’s Hall of Fame. “Current students are also involved in the selection process,” he said. “They act as hosts for the award ceremony, building pride and respect for past students and their accomplishments.” Collins also supports Fair Lane, the Home of Clara and Henry Ford in Dearborn, Michigan, and the Rotary Club of Louisville. Dealers are nominated by the executives of state and metro dealer associations around the country. A panel of faculty members from the Tauber Institute for Global Operations at the University of Michigan will select one finalist from each of the four NADA regions and one national Dealer of the Year. Three finalists will receive $5,000 for their favorite charities and the winner will receive $10,000 to give to charity, donated by Ally. In its 14th year as exclusive sponsor, Ally also will recognize dealer nominees and their community efforts by contributing $1,000 to each nominee’s 501(c)3 charity of choice. Nominees will be recognized on AllyDealerHeroes.com, which highlights the philanthropic contributions and achievements of TIME Dealer of the Year nominees. “At TIME, our commitment to recognizing the exceptional contributions of automotive dealers remains as strong as ever,” said Jessica Sibley, CEO of TIME. “The TIME Dealer of the Year award continues to celebrate those who not only excel in their profession but also make a meaningful impact in their communities. We are thrilled to continue this legacy in partnership with Ally.” Doug Timmerman, Ally president of Dealer Financial Services, said, “Auto dealers are the backbones of their communities, providing civic support and significant business leadership. Ally is proud to recognize the unwavering commitment these TIME Dealer of the Year nominees are living every day through their volunteerism, sponsorships and support of charitable causes. They are the epitome of community heroes, making important and positive impacts in the lives of the people they serve.” Collins was nominated for the TIME Dealer of the Year award by Jason Wilson, president of the Kentucky Automobile Dealers Association. Collins and his wife, Sandra, have four children. CHECKUP TIME! How to Avoid Burnout Several times throughout the year, it’s important to slow down, take a deep breath and evaluate ourselves, our processes and our results. Whether we call it a checkup or a self-assessment, taking the time to evaluate your work provides a fresh perspective, creates a path for improvement and helps us to set goals. Burnout can occur when we fail to take the time to analyze our daily work habits, so let’s do what we can to prevent it! To ensure we stay on the right path, here are three things we should be checking up on regularly: 1. Check Your Expectations Expectations that are too high or too low can cause frustration and a sense that the results we seek are unattainable and out of our control. Setting realistic and measurable goals is a great way to keep ourselves and our expectations in check. Instead of setting a specific number to reach, we must set the steps and activities that will produce what we expect. Practicing the process, researching areas of focus and overcoming common objections we hear from customers will bring about change and improvement. Our numbers never define us; our habits do. So inspect what you expect. 2. Check Your Feedback We have entered a world where everyone is guided by feedback. It’s not just a cultural phenomenon; it’s a discovery that everything improves when we look at it from the eyes of others. So be open to feedback, and in fact, you should welcome it! The best and most profitable ideas often come from customers, leadership and, at times, from the most unsuspecting places, like role-play. Role-play can be one of the most productive uses of our time. It provides an opportunity for fellow employees to look at what we do and tell us one thing we can do better. The name of the game is constructive feedback. The cumulative effect of this feedback can bring about tremendous improvement and cause us, and our teams, to reach levels we could never achieve by ourselves. The most successful individuals and companies are top-performing because they have honed the power of feedback. We must check to ensure we are listening to feedback and using it to improve. 3. Check the Clock In our increasingly busy world, time has become a commodity more important than money! For example, it is easy to focus on the total time a customer is in the F&I office and try to hurry through the process to shorten it in the hopes of eliminating any frustrations for them. However, customers are not frustrated with the amount of time spent in the office but rather how that time is used. If customers gain insightful information and are able to ask questions to understand how a product will help them, they’ll have a better ownership experience, time will fly by and the second hand on the clock will be less concerning. A good goal to set is for every customer to leave the office feeling that their time was respected and they were enlightened. If we are making a point to be fully present in our conversations, listening to others with purpose and sharing relevant information to provide an understanding, our customers will have a better experience! It’s all about what we are doing with the time as the clock moves each day! Regular checkups always produce better results and a better future. You will never be sorry that you took a moment to take a step back and evaluate yourself. This applies to teams and individuals. So, give yourself a checkup, and watch as you become the efficient, successful and fulfilled worker everyone strives to be! 20 KENTUCKY AUTO DEALER
