Fighting for the Profession FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT THE NESCPA'S POLITICAL EDUCATION COMMITTEE What is NESCPA PEC and why is it important? The Society’s Political Education Committee (PEC) provides direct campaign support to candidates for the Nebraska Legislature who value and understand the CPA profession. The PEC helps ensure CPAs have a voice in state government. Why should I contribute to NESCPA PEC? Your voluntary contribution helps ensure the CPA profession has a strong voice in the Nebraska Legislature. By joining forces with your fellow NESCPA members through the PEC, you help the Society build alliances with state legislators who directly influence legislation. Do my NESCPA membership dues fund the PEC? No. By law, the Society cannot use your dues for contributions to political candidates. CPAs must make all political contributions voluntarily. Are NESCPA’s efforts a duplication of AICPA PAC? No. AICPA PAC supports candidates for Congress in Washington, D.C. The NESCPA PEC only supports candidates for the Nebraska Legislature. What if I don’t want my money to support a particular party? NESCPA PEC is nonpartisan in its selection of candidates to support. The PEC considers the quality of candidate when determining who receives our support. The PEC Board is member managed and member driven. We welcome the insights and views of our members with respect to candidates and issues. Every dollar counts!
