17 nebraska society of cpas W W W . N E S C P A . O R G SOCIETY MOURNS LOSS OF FORMER STAFF MEMBER Long-time Society staff member Marcilyn “Marcy” J. Marsden of Lincoln died at age 79 on December 31, 2018. She was the second full- time employee of the Society when she joined the staff as secretary and receptionist on February 1, 1974. Over the years, she also served as the Society’s office manager and accountant. She retired from the Society on December 31, 2003. Marcy, along with ArnoldMagnuson, the Society’s first executive vice president, opened the Society’s first full-time office in the Stuart Building in Lincoln. She also helped establish the Society’s very successful Continuing Professional Education (CPE) program and the Society’s Foundation. In the early 1970s, the Society had just over 500 members. By the time Marcy retired, the Society had grown to more than 2,600 members. Dan Vodvarka, former Society president, worked with Marcy for more than 13 years. “She was a consummate professional whose talents were essential in the development and growth of today’s Nebraska Society of CPAs, Nebraska’s premier professional asso- ciation. It was a privilege to serve the Society with Marcy for over a decade,” Vodvarka said. A memorial service was held for Marcy on January 12 at South- Pointe Christian Church in Lincoln. A native of Fairbury, she is survived by her husband Lyle, a sister, brother, sister-in-law, nieces, andmany great nieces and great nephews.
