A past Society chairman who followed Heimes in that office wrote: “I have known Don for more than 30 years. He served the Society in many capacities and his contact and professional skills have proven invaluable to the Society. His dedication to the CPA profession and the Nebraska Society over his years of service was a great example tome and (at that time) the younger members of our association.” Heimes’ led a variety of successful Nebraska companies during his four- decade-long professional career. He was an audit manager with KPMG before becoming president of the Gerhold Companies; president, CEO, and co-owner of HGH Associates; and managing director of Corporate Finance Associates, all in Columbus. He comple ted a ve r y successf u l business career as the CFO of Supertel Hospitality in Norfolk and then as a director of CFO Systems in Omaha. Throughout his busy business career, Heimes always found time to volunteer and share his CPA skills and talents for the future good of Nebraska. In his hometown of Columbus, he has served as either president or chairman of the board of Scotus Central Catholic, the Columbus Area United Way, and the Columbus AreaChamber of Commerce. He is also on the board of directors of the Columbus Community Foundation and is a trustee of St. Bonaventure Parish of Columbus. These are just a few of his volunteer activities. Heimes’ leadership has also been i n f luent ia l statewide wit h many volunteer organizations throughout Nebraska. He was a long-time member of the Nebraska Chamber of Commerce & Industr y Board of Directors, a member of the University of Nebraska Medical Center Board of Counselors, and a trustee of the Boy Scouts of America’s Mid-America Council. In addition, he is past president of theNebraskaWorkforce Investment Board and a past member of the Central Community College System Board of Directors. Currently, he serves as president of the board of directors of Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Omaha. A former State Chamber president endorsed Heimes’ nomination by writing, “A well-respected member of the Nebraska business community, Don Heimes is deserving of the Nebraska Society’s highest award.He servedon the State Chamber Board for several years, always representing his profession, his business, and his communit y with distinction. Nebraska’s business community has benefited greatly from Don’s passion and expertise.” Heimes’ service doesn’t end there. Perhaps his most important contribution has been to his country. He is a Vietnam War veteran, and we thank him for his service and sacrifice during one of the longest conflicts in our country’s history. For his decades of unprecedented leadership and service to the Society, the Society’s Foundation, and the Society’s Political Education Committee, for his leadership statewide in the Nebraska business community, for his service to our country, and for his dedication to the advancement of his chosen profession, Nebraska CPAs presented Heimes with the Society’s 2018Distinguished Service to the Profession Award. t Throughout his busy business career, Heimes always found time to volunteer and share his CPA skills and talents for the future good of Nebraska.
