Why Do We Rob Banks? Because that is where the money is! By Bret Rock, Vice President, BancServ, Inc./Director of Fraud-Net at Florida Bankers Even scarier? That robberies are begin- ning to pale in comparison to the other type of threats that are out there. While counterfeit checks, mortgage fraud, skimming and other physical crimes are still popular avenues for de- frauding financial institutions, more and more we are seeing new threats emerge, particularly in the realm of cyber-crime. One of the most important things we can do to protect ourselves and our cus- tomers is to have an open line of dia- logue. Sharing information has proven time and again to be extremely effective in preventing financial crime. The best resource to share this information is Fraud-Net. Fraud-Net allows users from across the country to share information and remain up-to-date on what is happening in their town, state and nationally. However, Fraud-Net only works when users share, so remember, if there is a financial crime you can post about, a trend in crime you’ve become aware of or anything that you think might help your peers and colleagues, put it up on Fraud- Net.
