If you finish a task that you are given, don’t wait for someone to give you another task, be proactive and ask for one. I would also say never stop learning and don’t assume you know everything. Banking isn’t something you can learn in a year, or even in ten years. Banking is a lifetime of learning. I continue to learn something new everyday. Another one of my grandfather’s sayings is “Most people don’t have twenty years of experience; they have one year of experience twenty times.” Learn as much as you can, continually educate yourself by read- ing, attending conferences and asking questions. Knowledge is power and the more you know the more you will succeed. 6. Tell us about your family. I have an incredibly beautiful and intelligent wife named Melanie who is my rock. She keeps me balanced, healthy and humble. I might be the boss at work, but she is without a doubt the boss at home. We have two outstanding kids named Chloe (16) and Jackson (12). We also have a dog named Chula, a cat named Corky and four turtles. I would not be able to be in the position I am, if it were not for the love and support of my family. 7. What are your interests outside of banking? I am an avid hunter. I enjoy hunting deer, elk, ante- lope, barbary sheep, oryx, dove and quail. I love all things outdoors in general. My wife and I enjoy taking our Polaris Ranger on various trails around Carlsbad. New Mexico is one of the few states where there is an abundance of BLM and state land that you can explore. I also enjoy most sports, fishing and playing golf. 8. What is your claim to fame? I really don’t like this question because it insinuates that I brag about myself, which is never a good thing. But I suppose if I must give an answer, I would say that my claim to fame would have to be that to my knowledge, I am the youngest bank president in New Mexico. I am also the youngest mem- ber in history of the NMBA to be appointed to the board and now I am the youngest president in the history of the NMBA.
