ANDERSON, EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT New Mexico Bankers Association NMBA CONVENTION: A GREAT SUCCESS He estimates that 93% of all breaches could have been avoided by following his five- step approach. T he 108th Annual NMBA Conven - tion was a great success. A special thanks to all of those who attend- ed the event, which was held at the beautiful Buffalo Thunder Resort in Santa Fe. The Convention opened with a meet and greet cocktail party and vendor event featuring a “Mission Possible” theme with attendees’ participation in the ultimate spy game. Each participant was asked to complete a mission with each of the vendors and each secret code to win a top-secret prize. Great fun was had by all. Earlier in the day, golfers were treated to play in a tour- nament at the highly-rated Towa Golf Course. The tournament was won by Jay Jenkins (CNB Bank, Carlsbad), Dawn Dal Porto (Unit - ed Business Bank, Albuquerque), Ken Clayton (Western Bank, Artesia), and Tim Quisenber - ry (ePay Resources). High score honors went to the team of John Anderson, John Gulas and Mike Stanford. The education sessions of the convention were most informative. Roberto Coronado, Assistant Vice-President in charge of the Federal Reserve of Dallas, El Paso branch, gave an excellent overview of both national and New Mexico econ- omies. Things are looking up for the Land of En- chantment. Denyette Depierro, ABA, discussed digital threats and cyber risk. She addressed: • How to identify and mitigate risk on new and old digital channels; • Link between social media, social en- gineering, business e-mail compromise and fraud; • What is the next vulnerability: IOT, Fin- tech, Big Data; • Characteristics of developing a risk cul- ture at your institution; and • How to respond to innovation in a super- vised, heavily regulated industry. Scott Alldridge, CEO, IP Services, discussed five practical cyber-hygiene practices every
