13 THINKING OF BECOMING A MEMBER? VISIT OUR WEBSITE AIANN.ORG FOR APPLICATIONS AND MORE INFORMATION. MEMBERSHIP MESSAGE BY ANGELA BIGOTTI-CHAVEZ, AIA, COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR M embership in the American Institute of Architects is an opportunity to be a part of a group representing a force for positive change. The AIA offers a way to belong to a group of like-minded professionals through associateship, integration and camaraderie. We let our clients, community, and peers know about our commitment to the profession, design excellence, and a particular code of ethics. As a result of the 2020 pandemic, our commitment to others’ well-being caused a shift in regular events that would normally keep us in closer contact. Regardless, AIANN succeeded in finding a way to host important events such as the Annual Dennis AskewGolf Tournament and the Annual Design Awards Program. Both of which required some creativity by the board of directors and the members who remained supportive and involved. AIANorthernNevada remains committed to its ability to influence and respond to our community’s current needs. The power to assist our local decision-makers, agencies responding to new challenges, and our clients, as they continue to help our communitymake positive changes, lies squarely with organizations like AIANNand the involvement of itsmembers. Architects, in particular, are knowledgeable and creative. As members, we must use technology and small gatherings to stay connected now and through 2021. Continuing to join each other both virtually and even one-on-one will perpetuate our dialogue, keep us present with new ideas to current problems, and continue to affect positive responses to ongoing concerns. We have the opportunity to influence sustainability, new design measures in response to the pandemic, changes to planning and zoning requirements and good design in general. Our AlliedMembers add great value through their support of AIA. Suppliers, Contractors, Engineers and Design Professionals contribute greatly to our organization. Their contributions are essential to architects and keeping design andmanagement at its best. The value of design depends on the most current trends in products, innovation, and construction practices. Past, present and future architectsmust stay involved tomake themost of AIA.We need all generations to play a part in theAIA.Thank you to all AIAmembers who have contributed to leading our organization, as well as the young associate architects who are sharing their energy and insights. Growing ourmembership and bringing newvoices into leadership keeps the momentummoving forward. Contact the Board of Directors, participate on committees, initiate dialogue, and reach out to community decisionmakers for AIANN’s future efforts! b
