He most recently served as executive vice president, chief financial officer and chief operating officer. Hardwick joined First Merchants in 1997 as corporate controller and was promoted to CFO in 2002. In 2007 he assumed all leadership duties related to operations, technology and risk management for the corporation, and in 2016 his title expanded to include COO. Prior to joining First Merchants, Hardwick was a senior accountant with BKD, LLP in Indianapolis. He serves as a trustee of Ball State University, director for Next Muncie, is a member of the Ball State University Athletics Hall of Fame, and was named CFO of the Year by the Indianapolis Business Journal in 2012. A certified public accountant, Hardwick earned bachelor’s and MBA degrees from Ball State University and is a graduate of the Stonier Graduate School of Banking. Michael Stewart has been promoted to president. He most recently served as executive vice president and chief banking officer. Stewart joined First Merchants in 2008 after prior service in executive roles with National City Bank. He is director and past chairman of Bosma Industries, a member of the board of the Indiana Chamber of Commerce, a board member of Second Presbyterian Foundation, and an advisory board member of Oxer Capital Corp. and Centerfield Capital Corp. His past involvement includes serving as director of Westminster Neighborhood Services, Park Tudor Planned Giving and Junior Achievement of Central Indiana, and as chairman of the Seton Society. He is an alumnus of the Diversity Leadership Group of Greater Indianapolis. Stewart earned a bachelor’s degree from Millikin University and an MBA from Butler University. Michele Kawiecki has been promoted to chief financial officer. She previously served as senior vice president, director of finance. Kawiecki joined First Merchants in 2015 after prior service for 14 years with UMB Financial Corp., Kansas City, Missouri, where she was senior vice president of capital management and assistant treasurer, director of corporate development and the enterprise project management office, and chief risk officer STATE BANK / Brownsburg Tony Albrecht has joined the bank as executive vice president in the commercial lending group, leading plans for expansion into Lafayette and Tippecanoe County by late 2021. He previously was a regional president with a regional bank and president/ CEO of Lafayette Bank and Trust Company. Albrecht’s banking career spans 30 years, primarily in the Lafayette/ Tippecanoe County market. He serves on the North Central Health Services grants board, as well as on the boards of directors of Jasper County Economic Development and the Indiana Community Business Credit Corp. Albrecht is a graduate of Purdue University. for four years. Kawiecki had prior experience with PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP as audit manager. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Dakota Wesleyan University and master’s and executive MBA degrees from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Brent Talcott has been named region president, Lafayette market. He joined the bank in 2011, most recently serving as first vice president and commercial banking manager in Lafayette. Talcott previously worked for more than 20 years with Regions Bank and its predecessors, ultimately as city president for the northern Indiana region. He is a board member and treasurer for the Lafayette Parks Foundation, a board member for the Purdue Center for Economic Education, and he coaches baseball at West Lafayette High School. Talcott is a graduate of Indiana University. HOOSIER HEARTLAND STATE BANK Crawfordsville Blake Zachary has been promoted to chief technology officer. He has been with the bank for five years, most recently serving as vice president, information technology. Zachary has 20 years of experience in technology and cybersecurity leadership/governance and has earned information technology certification from the Independent Community Bankers of America.
