24 JANUARY / FEBRUARY 2022 Josh Myers Vice President - Member Engagement Indiana Bankers Association jmyers@indiana.bank @joshmyersIN FLD FOCUS FLD Advisory Board Stepping up to serve The Indiana Bankers Association is a member-driven organization that prides itself on the tremendous engagement and support from bankers and associate members. These members are vital to IBA success, ranging from event participation, to board and committee service, and much more. The IBA’s Future Leadership Division is a memberdriven offering that is operated under the direction of an FLD Advisory Board. The Advisory Board has been instrumental in recent years in achieving the high level of success the FLD currently enjoys. The FLD Advisory Board is structured to consist of 16 bankers from throughout the state. Three representatives from four Indiana regions serve on the board, as well as four at-large members. Each member has the opportunity to serve two three-year terms. The Advisory Board includes the positions of president and vice president, which are both one-year terms. Because the FLD is seen as an integral part of the IBA’s future, the president of the FLD additionally represents the FLD on the IBA Board of Directors. Advisory Board members come from a vast range of bank departments and levels of experience in order to provide a robust look at the industry. Each member of the FLD Advisory Board is effectively an ambassador for banking, in particular for emerging leaders in the Indiana banking community. Advisory Board members have been instrumental in growing the peer-to-peer network of the FLD. Throughout the year, FLD Advisory Board members encourage participation in FLD events and activities within their own banks, but also connect with peers outside of their own bank walls. This banker-to-banker interaction has grown the FLD from just a few dozen members a few years ago to nearly 500 members today. At events such as the annual FLD Leadership Conference, Advisory Board members are instrumental in helping to lead discussion groups, promote FLD opportunities, introduce speakers and other activities. Their service in these capacities ensures that FLD events run smoothly and provide value to attendees. The Advisory Board is also vital to the success of the FLD silent auction held at the IBA Annual Convention to support Indiana BANKPAC. Members reach out to banks to encourage donations for the auction, and many attend the auction to set up items and provide support throughout the evening. The FLD silent auction is a longstanding tradition and a highlight of the Annual Convention. Other events that Advisory Board members assist with include the FLD Day at the Statehouse, Coffee Club meetings and various networking events throughout the year. In addition to event participation, FLD Advisory Board members make a positive impact on the IBA by sharing their suggestions and ideas. At Advisory Board meetings, typically held twice per year, members offer feedback and advice on FLD offerings. These meetings provide an opportunity for Advisory Board members to network while providing vital input to the IBA to make the FLD continually more effective. Over the years, several bankers have graciously served on the FLD Advisory Board, and we thank them for their service, which has directly benefited the Indiana banking community. We also greatly appreciate our current FLD Advisory Board members, listed on page 4 of this magazine. The future is bright for Indiana banking, and we look forward to good things to come. HB
