NANCY SPARKS A MESSAGE FROM YOUR 2022 KADA CHAIRWOMAN Dear KADA Members, What an amazing year 2021 was for the automotive industry. I trust it was an eventful year for each and every one of you in your own way. With us well on our way into 2022, there is much to do. I am proud to be part of the KADA Executive Board as your Chairwoman in this exciting year. I believe in the spirit of teamwork; as dealer principal of 11 franchises with over 400 employees, I know the value of a good team. KADA has assembled that team for you as well. We have an outstanding group of dealers serving on your behalf. I am confident we will be sharing much progress in the upcoming year. Our industry has and is still facing many challenges in the months and years ahead. KADA realizes the importance of these challenges and is here to represent you, the Kentucky dealers. The KADA board works closely with our legislators on key issues that protect the dealers’ interest. We are very excited that the Modernization Bill has officially passed. This means that by 2024, we should be on our way to modernizing the titling and registration process, making it electronic and eliminating many of the challenges you faced in the past. Stay tuned for more on that and other key issues. As always, we will represent the Association to the best of our ability, however your input and participation is always welcome and needed. I believe that the automotive industry is one of the greatest in the world. The network of dealers is some of the most talented men and women in the business arena. We are resilient. As I mentioned, we have challenges ahead of us and need to engage with our legislators and those who have influence on our business. KADET allows us to do just that. I encourage you to join me and many of your fellow dealers in supporting and contributing to the KADET Fund. We will work hard for you this year and will act on your behalf. Communication is important. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to any member on the Board of Directors or any Executive Board member with issues or questions you may have. There is an updated directory on the website as well for your guidance. JASON WILSON A MESSAGE FROM YOUR 2022 KADA PRESIDENT Dear KADA Members, What a year of changes we have seen both in our personal and professional lives. Despite the challenges faced by COVID-19, the automotive industry has continued to grow and sales have stayed on the rise. From an association perspective, we have grown almost 20% in dealer membership and close to 40% in allied partners. As the pandemic has taught us, we must be prepared for anything, and one of the best ways to accomplish this is by doing what we do best – embracing new technology. As you have heard, since last year we have been fighting to modernize the titling and registration process for dealers here in Kentucky, and in this 2022 General Session we introduced a bill that would make this process electronic. We couldn’t be more excited that the bill officially passed and we are now well on our way to ensuring that by January 2024 electronic titling and registration will be available to car dealers. Yet another shift we are seeing is the move to electric vehicles. Dealers have always been the ambassadors of new technology and as more and more electric vehicles are presented into the market, I know our dealer community is excited and equipped to introduce them to the public. We continue to see inventory delays due to chip shortages and we anticipate this being a challenge in 2022 and perhaps beyond. The war in Ukraine is significantly affecting this as well as other facets of the automotive industry. However, despite these challenges, there is one thing that I could not be more confident of: car dealers are resilient. We are a community that not only adapts and perseveres, but also leads the way. Your Kentucky Auto Dealers Association is here to support your business in the best ways we can; with legislative updates, webinars and workshops, partner programs with products and services tailored to your dealership needs, podcasts, networking events, and more. We encourage you to take advantage of all the resources available to you, and please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns. DAN RENSHAW A MESSAGE FROM YOUR 2022 NADA DIRECTOR Hello to our Dealers, I want to wish everyone a great year for 2022. Many dealers have experienced good profits over this past year and I feel our dealers have managed very well considering the challenges we’ve all experienced the past two years. May we all learn from these and develop new ways of moving forward into 2023. We continue to face some unprecedented challenges: many of our dealers have had concerns with the availability of new vehicles in all makes and lines, which has also led to LIFO situations for nearly all of us; we are beginning to see some manufacturers experimenting with floor plan changes; and some manufacturers are deciding how they will approach their businesses — to divide it between EV’s and ICE units, or whether to run the company as a single entity with separate divisions or businesses. Please remember to work closely with our state legislators — that’s where all our laws are generated that give us protection to some degree as franchised dealers. Maintaining good relationships with them will definitely pay dividends in the future. Our NADA will continue to do all in their power to help us in any way possible moving into the future. Their lobbying and policy efforts extend beyond the halls of Congress into the various departments, such as Treasury, to ensure that our interests are always considered in every piece of legislation or policy that affects us. We must all remain close to these two great resources — NADA and KADA. When we work as a team and understand the strengths of both, it will create a band that is helpful to our entire dealer body. We should all feel that our NADA and KADA will always have the betterment of our dealer body at the forefront of all they do. We certainly have great leadership in both of our associations, with Mike Stanton at the helm of NADA and Jason Wilson at the helm of our KADA organization. There will be many changes over the next decade — many will be great for the dealers and some maybe not so much. The more we can stay involved with our OEMs, our employees, our state legislators, our Congressmen and U.S. Senators, the better and more informed we will be to march forward into the future, doing what we can to help mold the industry we serve. As most of you know, we have a great team of approximately 190 employees at NADA in Washington who are constantly involved in many projects that you read about in Automotive News and on the daily NADA reports. Our NADA Show in Las Vegas will have passed by the time you read this. It will be awesome this year. As you remember, last year it was held virtually. Also, in March 2023 our NADA Show will be in the Dallas — Fort Worth area with yours truly at the controls as your NADA Show Chairman. I’m looking forward with great expectations and excitement. We have plans to really do the Texas thing next year. (Can I get a yee-haw???) While we are all trying to adjust to the coming changes, the future is not to be feared. We just need to try to understand and adjust to these changes. And keep in mind, what’s good for our dealers and the OEM’s may not always be the same. Always remember that if there’s anything I can ever do to assist our great Kentucky dealers, please feel free to let me know. KADA has all my info and numbers. The National Automobile Dealers Association and its dealers reached major milestones in what has been one of the most complex times in our industry’s history. Franchised dealers around the nation remain resilient despite a global pandemic, volatile market conditions, the evolution of EV technology, and an onslaught of challenges coming out of the nation’s capital. NADA has been proudly holding the front lines and we couldn’t do it without the support and engagement of tireless dealer bodies like the Kentucky Automobile Dealers Association. As we look toward the year ahead, we must continue to gain ground on our most critical issues of 2022. In March, NADA returned to its live Show in Las Vegas — our association’s first in-person reunion in two years since the pandemic began. NADA Show 2022 was a resounding success, bringing four days of renowned programming, five-star education, networking opportunities, make meetings and live performances to thousands of dealers and industry allies. I couldn’t be prouder to lead the exceptional team that worked so hard to produce a live show. NADA is working harder than ever. We are on a path to an electric future and dealers are essential to this evolution. NADA’s message is loud and clear: Dealers are ALL IN on EVs! We are providing the tools, partnerships, and resources to tackle the most significant transformation in our industry’s history: bringing an electric future to the driving public. From the beginning, NADA has actively promoted the competitive advantages of the dealer franchise model when it comes to selling electric vehicles. Our goal is to present a solution to the government for its ambitions to scale EVs, especially as EVs go beyond luxury and into the mainstream. NADA will continue to examine the internal and external challenges along the path to electrification; the motivations for prospective EV buyers; and how dealerships can best prepare for EV sales through a datadriven approach. NADA, in fact, has announced a new program — in partnership with the Center for Sustainable Energy and Plug In America — to enhance EV education at franchised dealerships nationwide. Our goal is to prepare dealers and their employees for the widespread adoption of EVs. The EV training program is an online, interactive model that is designed to complement OEM model-specific training and serves as a brandagonistic review of essential content that sales staff need to communicate with customers and efficiently close EV sales. It’s supported by the Alliance for Automotive|Innovation. By bringing these two EV-focused powerhouse organizations together with NADA, we will educate dealers and help accelerate the mass market adoption of EVs. Throughout the year, NADA will continue to advocate for the interests of all dealers whether it’s the battle against harmful taxes, harmful stairstep programs, or overly broad regulations that lead to impractical policies. But NADA needs the participation and engagement of dealers everywhere, and we need your voice more than ever. We cannot leave the fate of our great industry in the hands of others. Visit the NADA and ATD websites often and stay up to date on the latest issues and highlights. Get to know your metro or state association executive as they are the boots on the ground. And stay in touch with NADA throughout the year. NADA is proud to support and advocate for franchised dealers nationwide! JACK KAIN, SR. CONTINUED ON PAGE 30 Jack Kain Sr. is the founder of Jack Kain Ford in Versaille, Kentucky. He was nominated by Jason Wilson, president of the Kentucky Automobile Dealers Association, for the 2022 TIME Dealer of the Year Award. Recipients are successful auto dealers who demonstrate a long-standing commitment to community service. The award is now in its 53rd year and is one of the automobile industry’s most prestigious and highly coveted honors. Ally has been an exclusive sponsor for 11 years. The executives of state and metro dealer associations around the country nominated more than 16,000 dealers nationwide. However, only 47 dealer nominees were honored on March 11, 2022, at the 105th annual National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) Show in Las Vegas. Jack Kain was one of them. A panel selected one finalist from each of the four NADA regions and one national Dealer of the Year. Three finalists received an additional $5,000 for their favorite charities, and the winner received an additional $10,000 to give to charity, donated by Ally. Ally also contributed $1,000 to each nominee’s 501(c)(3) charity of choice and recognized them on AllyDealerHeroes.com, which highlights the philanthropic contributions and achievements of TIME Dealer of the Year nominees. Kain grew up on a dairy farm, is a United States Air Force veteran and earned a B.A. in 1951 from the University of Kentucky in Lexington. He began to sell cars part-time at a local dealership during college. Kain had a knack for sales and a passion for the retail automotive business. He acquired a DeSoto-Plymouth store in Frankfort, Kentucky, in 1953 and launched his first Ford store in Frankfort in 1959. He later moved his Ford operation to Versailles in 1979, added another Ford store in London, Kentucky, and bought and sold Chevrolet, Chrysler and Nissan dealerships over the years. Kain built his current facility in Versailles in 2003 and sold the Ford dealership in London in 2012. 29 KENTUCKY AUTO DEALER

Four of his children — Bob, Patrick, Bill and Vickie Kain-Fister — work for the dealership and carry on his legacy. Kain has served in leadership positions on the state and national levels. He was president of the Kentucky Automobile Dealers Association in 1982. He held numerous executive positions at NADA, including chair (2005), vice-chair (2004), treasurer (2003) and secretary (2002), and contributed to NADA Foundation’s board. “My finest moment serving NADA was in 2005 when we visited Mississippi and Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina and distributed hundreds of thousands of dollars raised by the automotive industry for individuals and workers at dealerships who were devastated by the storm,” Kain said. “ Although Kain chose the auto industry over farming, he never forgot his roots. “My car business has enabled me to help a lot of farmers keep their farms going,” he said. Kain also gives back to his community and has coached youth sports, including baseball, basketball and football. He sponsors local school events and educational programs for Versailles and supports organizations in his local area, the county of Woodford and central Kentucky. “The retail automotive industry has given me the opportunity to give back to my community in many ways,” he said. “I have worked to achieve a better quality of life for all through improved schools, cleaner water, better health care options and more activities.” Kain and his wife, Alice Stewart-Kain, have nine children.
